Look What I Finished!

First of all let me give you an update on my progress on the Mariner's Compass.  It has been slower than I anticipated because 1) work has been very busy and 2) watching the Olympics has had me doing more hand work than time spent in my sewing room.  I did manage to finish the 1st compass in the green colorwave and the pieces are cut for the 2nd compass!

Secondly, as I mentioned, I have done a bit of hand work while watching the Olympics.  I also mentioned in a previous post about Stina in Sweden and her heart stitcheries.  Although I never included stitchery in my quilts before (and I haven't done stitchery in years) I decided to challenge myself to these lovely hearts.  Here are some pictures of the results!  I quite like it!  The cute fabric around the hearts and the border fabrics are from my stash.  Isn't it delightful and cheery?

Finally, I would like to give a heads up about a giveaway over at alittlebitbiased.  Amber has a new quilt pattern business called gigi's thimble and I really like these patterns.  Go on over and take a look. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself!
And a final note about a new fabric line at lilatuellerdesigns and her giveaway.  Check out the pretty spring colors on her quilt giveaway!

That's all for now!  More hand stitching while watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics tonight!

Senior Show

This past Monday was my daughter, Kirsten's Senior Show. She will be graduating in May with a degree in Photography. We are so proud of her accomplishments. Here is a sampling of pictures from her show.  You can see more of her work here.

Progress:
During our travels to Indiana allowed time for some hand crafting. I finished the last 3 heart stitcheries and another coffee cozy for my daughter's orders. No pictures yet. Not exactly sure how I will set the hearts...but I have a few ideas. More to come later.

Friday Night Sew-in results

Although progress was made in little ways, no real finishes except the knitted coffee cozies.

Marinier's Compass Progress:
I spent the early part of the evening in my sewing room working on the 1st compass for my mariner's compass quilt in the green colorwave.  I was able to get these 8 pieces together before the Olympics called me to change projects so I could watch the events.  Yes, watching the Olympics has been exciting but it has slowed down the time I have to spend in my sewing room (no TV in there!)
It was pretty neat to see Norway with the gold in men's super G and the USA getting the silver and bronze.  (My husband is Norwegian!)

Knitting Progress:
I needed to finish up the 7 knitted coffee cozies, weaving and securing the tail ends.  I then washed and blocked them so they would be ready to take to my daughter on Sunday when we visit! (There is a second blue one hiding behind the other blue one.)

Stitchery:
Since I have started this blog, I have become aware of so many talented ladies out in cyber world.  After reading so many blogs, I have challenged myself to yet another new handcraft - stitchery!  I am starting small with the cute Valentine hearts from Kviltstina. Yes, I know that it is after Valentine's Day but hearts and love are for everyday so here are the ones I have finished yesterday!

They are so pretty....wouldn't you agree!!

Well, we are off to Indiana with excitement to see our daughter, Kirsten's Senior Show!  This is the culmination of 4 years of hard work!  We are so proud of her!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I have not been able to get into my sewing room, however I did finish the baby blankets for the twins! They turned out very cute don't you think? Next I will start on making more coffee cup cozies. My daughter took some back to school and she had gotten several orders for more. With the winter Olympics started, more knitting and a try at some hand stitching.
I also just signed up for the February Friday Night Sew-in on February 19th. Check it out at Handmade by Heidi.  Sounds like a great way to get a guaranteed night of hand crafting!

SNOW DAY

A snow day!  Here in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, we got a good amount of snow!  School was cancelled! So before I get into my sewing room, I thought I would take a little walk outside to take a few pictures of the snow while the sun is shining!

Hopefully I will finish a compass today!  Back to tell more later!

Yes!!  There has been good progress made on this Snow Day!  I finished the last yellow mariner's compass today!  Next up is the green colorwave.  First I need to cut all those freezer paper templates....that is for another day!

Tonight I will work a little on the baby blanket!

I'm back...

Hello there!
I am back although I have had NO time in my sewing room and have not made progress on the mariner's compass.  Sigh...    I have not made my goal of completing a compass each week. :o(

Last week work was VERY busy and this week is proving to be the same. Sigh...

Good News!
I have finished one of the baby blankets I have been knitting for the twins!  The twins (a boy and a girl!) were born last Thursday a little early (due March 17th).  They are healthy but small.  I need to get busy on the second blanket! Here are some pictures.

I also knitted (before Christmas) many of these coffee cup cozies as small 'go green' Christmas gifts. Thought I would share a picture...

That is all for now...The forecast for tonight and tomorrow is LOTS of SNOW!  Maybe we will have a day off and I will spend it my sewing room!
